Giant Timber Bamboo, Bambusa oldhamii, is the largest species of bamboo. It can reach 50′-65′ tall and a diameter of 4″. It is a clumping variety, meaning the roots don’t run and spread, and makes an excellent privacy hedge, as this homeowner intended. However, removing the roots in a stand of this age (25 years) is very labor intensive. It was necessary to remove some sections to make room for a new fence installation, using a chainsaw and jackhammer. No small task, but our crew was up to the challenge.
